Job Description
Develop and implement fundraising strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors at all levels.

- Personally identify, cultivate, and solicit potential/existing donors at all levels for current and major gifts. Make a predetermined number of contacts.

- Raise goodwill and dollars by engaging in authentic, meaningful and strategic actions in an effort to draw donors closer to the institution through a Moves Management approach.

- Write compelling proposals and ensure that a number of prospects are at each of the major levels of ‘readiness’ (ready to accept proposal next visit or ready to accept in 6-12 months).

- Achieve a specific dollar goal as determined between the Development Officer and AVP.

- Develop and execute strategies to move donors through the lifetime giving cycle.

- Work closely with other UA staff to coordinate prospect activity and create strategies for cultivation of new and existing donors.

- Maintain cultivation, stewardship, and correspondence with assigned donors.

- Participate in donor recognition programs and special events.

- Support the execution of all giving opportunities sponsored by UA including: the annual fund, endowed scholarships, major gifts, capital gifts and planned gifts.

- Partner with institutional leadership when appropriate to assist with donor relationship-building or solicitation. Involve faculty by coordinating their activities and directing their involvement with donors, when appropriate.

- Assist with drafting publicity materials for university publications.

- Work with volunteers to engage them in fundraising efforts and various programs/initiatives sponsored by UA.

- May oversee or lead development-related programs designed to engage volunteers or build relationships with specific segments of prospects/donors.

- Enter all prospect/donor-related information in Raiser’s Edge (donor management system) on a regular basis to maintain up-to-date information in the database.

- Adhere to agreed-upon budget for costs associated with fundraising efforts.

- Continue to build new skills via: internal training resources; external training resources; and new on-the-job experiences.

- Additional duties as assigned by the AVP.


Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and minimum of four years of successful fundraising experience.

- Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with upgrading donors to major and planned gifts.

- Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of the University.

- Relational, having a natural curiosity and interest in others.

- Understanding of Christian higher education combined with the ability to articulate the mission and vision of Point Loma and value of its education within the broader higher education context.

- Experience in a position with accountability for both result (quantitative) and process (qualitative) oriented goals.

- Knowledge of Windows and MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.

- Able to deliver results within the established timeframes while managing multiple priorities. Successfully organize and prioritize workflow. May coordinate the work of others.

- Understanding of fundraising and stewardship principles, and the desire to grow givers’ hearts as you journey with them toward greater faith and generosity.

- Work independently; excellent analytical and self-motivational skills; excellent advocacy and persuasive skills, able to think critically. Exercise independent judgment consistent with department and university guidelines. Must be flexible and adaptable.

- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and comprehend oral and written instructions.

- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with department and university employees, outside business associates, and senior level management in a team environment.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality.

- Results-oriented, able to demonstrate the ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization, warmly develop relationships with diverse constituencies, and simultaneously employ keen judgment; has the best opportunity for success.

- Ability to hear and speak to employees/management and outside business associates on the phone and in person; ability to sit for long hours at a time; ability to see the letters and numbers on a personal computer screen and on memos, reports and other documents (near vision); requires moderate right and left hand coordination for the use of the personal computer; ability to maintain a professional image.

- Regional travel required (i.e. approximately 40% - 60% of time).
